School Council

"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed people can change the world.
Indeed, it's the only thing that ever has."
 - Margaret Mead

"To improve academic achievement, to solve difficult education problems, and to share ideas for school improvement," are a few reasons the state legislature in House Bill 1187 established school councils. Our Cedar Hill School Council provides advice and makes recommendations to the principal, and/or board of education on matters of student activities and achievement. Items may include:
  • school calendar
  • school codes for conduct and dress
  • curriculum, program goals and priorities
  • budget priorities
  • school-community communication
  • school progress and student achievement
  • Council members maintain a school-wide perspective on issues, regularly participate in Council meetings, participate in information and training programs, act as a link between the School Council and the community, encourage the participation of parents and others within the school community, and work to improve student achievement and performance.

Cedar Hill's School Council includes two teachers, two parents, two community business people, and the principal. Parent and teacher representatives are elected by their representative bodies. All parents are invited to attend Council meetings. Meetings are announced in the Gwinnett Post, on the school sign, in the Parent-Student Handbook Calendar, and on the CHES web page.

If you have concerns or questions that you would like to share with Council members, please feel free to do so. Your ideas, suggestions, and input are important. You may leave a message for any Council member by calling the school (770-962-5015) or contact them via email.
