Lunch Program

Our cafeteria serves a nutritious lunch with choices of entrees and vegetables daily. Children may pay daily or establish a lunch account utilizing their Student ID number. Money for accounts should be sent in a sealed envelope with the name of your child on the check and the teacher's name indicated. Please send separate checks for each child. An important part of our nutritional program is the modeling of healthy nutrition habits. We ask that children not bring soft drinks or glass containers to school.

Lunch Charges
We appreciate parental assistance in reminding students to bring lunch money and frequently checking with children about when additional payments are needed. It is very upsetting to children to be without lunch money. GCPS has adopted a policy which governs student charges. Only two charges are permitted. After two charges, students will not be permitted additional charges. However, our cafeteria will provide the child with one item from the serving line and milk. Students receive a charge slip indicating the amount due and that additional money is needed the following day. No lunch charges will be permitted the last two weeks of school.

Special Diet/Food Allergies
In order to substitute milk with juice as part of the regular daily diet, documentation from your physician indicating an allergy is required. Special diets should be provided from home.

Breakfast Program

Cedar Hill Elementary provides an optional breakfast program for students. Breakfast is served from 7:45-8:10 only. The serving line will be closed at 8:10. No exceptions. If your child qualifies for free lunch, he/she also qualifies for free or reduced breakfast. Our breakfasts consists of simple quick items that will help start your child's day with a good breakfast and allow them to be in their classroom on time. If you plan for your child to have breakfast, be sure to deposit enough money in his/her account to cover both breakfast and lunch. No charges will be allowed for breakfast.

School Nutrition Program Policies

Knowing that diet has a tremendous impact on long-term health, Gwinnett cafeterias try to encourage healthier eating habits through healthier choices. The meals served in your child's school follow the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, emphasizing low fat and low sodium selections. When planning student meals, the following are taken into consideration:
  • student food preferences
  • the nutritional value of the meal
  • the affordability of the meal for all students
  • requirements set by federal and state agencies
Our guidelines mandate that each student have a nutritious meal each day. We want to encourage students to try foods they may not have tried before. They may even find a new food they like! We also would like students to understand that we monitor their selections and may sometimes help them to change their selections or quantities of a specific type of food in an effort to ensure that their meals are well balanced.

Every student must have a milk on their tray unless they have submitted a doctor's note stating they are allergic to milk products. These students will be able to have juice.

On the days that we offer salad plates, the only other item that you select with these meals is milk.

While choosing meals, please remember our rules:

  • When you first pick up your tray, place your cash on the tray. This way you will not drop it on the floor, in the milk box, or in the food.

  •
  • Please use the serving utensils at all times. Never pick food up with your hands.

  •
  • If you drop the serving utensil, please do not put it back in the food. Give the utensil to one of the cafeteria workers and they will give you a clean one.

  •
  • Decide what you want before you put it on your tray. Please do not put food back into the pan.

  •
  • . Remember the pans are hot, so be careful and touch only the serving utensils. Do not touch the pans!

  •
  • Stand straight as you prepare your tray. Please do not put your head under the food shields.
Lastly, in order for you to have enough time to enjoy your lunch and visit with your friends, please go through the lines quickly and quietly. Stay in line as you go to the cashier. If you have any questions, please ask one of the cafeteria workers and they will help you.
